Have these ready before you start
- Your employer's HR / payroll portal credentials (your work email login, usually)
- Your employee ID + PAN (you'll need them if you have to email payroll)
- Form 16 is statutorily released AFTER the FY ends — typically by 15 June. If you're filing earlier, only the previous year's Form 16 is available; use that.
Step by step
- 1
Check your employer's HR portal
Most large employers (Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Accenture, etc.) self-serve Form 16 on the HR portal. Look for 'Tax → Form 16' or 'Compensation → Annual Tax Statement'.
- 2
If not on the portal, email payroll
Subject: 'Request for Form 16 — FY 2025–26' (or whichever FY). Include your employee ID + PAN. Payroll teams must respond; this is a legal obligation under Section 203 of the Income Tax Act.
- 3
Verify both Part A and Part B before saving
Form 16 has two parts: Part A (TDS deducted, downloaded by employer from TRACES) and Part B (salary breakup, prepared by employer). Open the PDF — if Part B is missing, ask payroll to resend. Sajag's parser reads both.
- 4
Upload to Sajag
Drop the PDF into the Form 16 slot. Sajag reads gross salary, deductions claimed, and reconciles against your bank-credited income to surface tax-regime decisions.

Portal UIs change often, so we link a curated YouTube search instead of one specific video. Pick whichever recent tutorial you like — they all show the same flow.
Watch on YouTubeIf the PDF asks for a password
Usually first 5 letters of PAN + DOB in DDMMYYYY (e.g. ABCDE05121990). Some employers use just the PAN.
Sajag’s parser also tries common derivations automatically (PAN, DOB combinations, last-4 of mobile, bank-specific schemes). You usually won’t need to type the password during upload.
Common gotchas
Form 16 is annual. You only get one per FY per employer. If you switched jobs mid-year, you'll get TWO Form 16s — upload both.
Self-employed / freelance income has NO Form 16 — instead use Form 26AS (next guide). Sajag handles both.
If your employer is dragging on issuance past 15 June, complain on TRACES (contents.tdscpc.gov.in) — late issuance is an Income Tax Act violation.
Don't pay any 'Form 16 download service' — it's a free statutory document from your employer. Third-party agents can't issue it.
