Have these ready before you start
- Your PAN (this is your e-filing user ID)
- e-Filing portal password — register with PAN + DOB + mobile if you've never logged in
- Aadhaar-linked mobile for the OTP
- About 10 minutes (TRACES is slow during peak ITR season)
Step by step
- 1
Visit the e-filing portal
Go to www.incometax.gov.in. Click 'Login Here' (top-right). Use your PAN as user ID + your e-filing password. If you've never logged in, register with PAN + DOB + mobile.
- 2
Open e-File menu
After login, top menu: 'e-File → Income Tax Returns → View Form 26AS'.
- 3
Confirm redirect to TRACES
The portal redirects you to TRACES (the TDS portal). Accept the disclaimer and click 'Proceed'.
- 4
Pick the Assessment Year
Choose the AY you want (e.g. AY 2026–27 = FY 2025–26). Select 'View Form 26AS' (HTML view) and then 'Export as PDF' from the page.
- 5
Save and upload
Save the PDF. Sajag reads every TDS row, reconciles against Form 16, and flags TDS deducted but not credited to your PAN — a common cause of refund delays.
Prefer a video walkthrough?
Portal UIs change often, so we link a curated YouTube search instead of one specific video. Pick whichever recent tutorial you like — they all show the same flow.
Watch on YouTubeIf the PDF asks for a password
DOB in DDMMYYYY (e.g. 05121990 for 5 December 1990).
Sajag’s parser also tries common derivations automatically (PAN, DOB combinations, last-4 of mobile, bank-specific schemes). You usually won’t need to type the password during upload.
Common gotchas
TRACES occasionally goes down during peak ITR season (June–July). If the export fails, retry late evening.
Form 26AS now shows TDS, TCS, advance tax, self-assessment tax, AND property-sale TDS — Sajag reads them all.
AIS (Annual Information Statement) is a parallel document with even more detail (mutual-fund redemption, dividend TDS, etc.). It's also free; Sajag will accept the AIS PDF if you have it.
